Latest Club Update

Dear Members,

We hope that you all managed to enjoy a safe and happy Christmas and new year.

Unfortunately, as we enter 2022, Covid-19 infection numbers are rising rapidly and some members have reported close contact with the virus.  While we are still allowed to stay open, it is more important than ever that we all adhere to our club’s Covid safe protocols which are based on current guidance from Archery GB and the government. We want to keep all our members as safe as possible so we can all continue to enjoy archery.

Archery GB’s most recent guidance (December 2021) states that:

• All members, except if medically exempt or under the age of 11, should wear a face covering in indoor places, which are crowded and enclosed, and where they may come into contact with people they do not normally meet.

• Face coverings can be removed by archers when actively shooting (replaced when collecting arrows or waiting off the shooting line).

• Clean or sanitise hands and shared equipment regularly.

• Clubs must consider ventilation for indoor venues – let fresh air in.

• Anyone with Covid symptoms should not attend, get tested and self-isolate if required to do so.

Additionally, in common with other schools, please remember that Archbishop’s has a ‘masks indoors’ policy.

Members shooting indoors must ensure Gym windows are open during shooting sessions.

With these points in mind, please wear a face covering when entering Archbishop’s School, either for shooting or using the toilet facilities, and use hand sanitiser frequently when coming into contact with any shared surfaces at the club.  Please respect others’ space by maintaining social distancing.

We would also encourage members to take lateral flow tests before attending the club.

Club members MUST NOT come to the range/club if they show symptoms of any illness but in particular of Covid-19.

  • If you have any of the main symptoms of Covid-19, even if they're mild, take a test as soon as possible.  Please do not come to the club.

  • Please notify a committee member if you develop Covid-19 symptoms after attending the club.

Thank you for your help in keeping all our club members as safe as possible during these challenging times.

 Kind regards,

Karen and your committee

Indoor Shooting

Dear All,

We are pleased to let you know that indoor shooting at Archbishop’s will resume this Wednesday, 10 th November, 6.15pm arrival to set up for a 7 pm start (in the gym which is upstairs in the main building). Access is via the main school entrance which is on the left as you drive into the large car park at the top of the drive. However, because this is our first return during the pandemic and the small size of the gym, spaces will initially be limited to eight people per session, including the session key holder/leader, using four straw bosses. We will see how this arrangement goes and may adjust it at a later date depending on feedback from those attending.

We are still able to shoot indoors at Ursuline, Westgate on a Tuesday evening and are very grateful to Thanet Archers for continuing to offer this lovely facility to our archers. Please remember that Thanet have independent insurance and Canterbury members are no longer insured to shoot there under Archery GB insurance. Thanet Archers advise that their insurance provides indemnity for any ‘Guest Archers’ but it is your responsibility to satisfy yourself that sufficient insurance cover exists. Canterbury Archers will not provide any indemnity, advice or opinions on this.

Unfortunately at this time, Club equipment is not accessible for our indoor sessions so only those with their own equipment are able to attend.

Every archer must use the online booking calendar to book only for themselves (not a target on behalf of themselves and others as was allowed for outdoor) and be willing to share a target with one other. Please remember to cancel your booking if you are not able to attend.

Hand sanitiser is provided in dispensers throughout the school and in bottles on the shooting line (or you may prefer to bring your own) and it is recommended that you wear a mask or face shield when not on the shooting line and gloves when moving the stands and bosses. Please remember to observe distancing and be respectful of other people’s space.

If you feel unwell at all, or have recently had contact with someone with Covid, please do not attend.

Kind regards,

The Committee
